Location: Nanaimo, B.C. Best way to get there is drive north to Tsawwassen, BC and take the ferry to Nanaimo. |
| Description: The Saskatchewan is a retired Canadian warship that was sunk just off Nanaimo near Snake Island for use as an artificial reef/dive attraction. Unlike the Diamond Knot, you don't have to guess where it's at. It's clearly marked with marker buoys. (Ha! That's a pun, get it?). Another stark contrast to the Diamond Knot is currents here are minimal, you can dive it just about any time. As far as depth goes, some of the wreck is as shallow as 50ft., with the main deck around 80-90ft. and the deepest part around 120-130ft. This is a good dive to get some deep dive experience (AFTER you've been AOW certified) and some wide-angle photos. I recommend staying at the Buccaneer Motel which is just a few blocks from Ocean Explorers dive charter, and the wreck is just a ten minute boat ride from their dock. Reviewed by Greg Goebel |

| Reviews: Even though part of the wreck (the antenna tower) is around 50ft, I wouldn't recommend diving only the shallow part, the temptation will be too great to explore the main deck. IOW, plan for a deep dive and dive your plan. Also resist the temptation to penetrate the wreck unless you are trained and equipped for wreck penetration. Enough preaching. - Greg Goebel |
